Fireproof

In one of the second season episodes of CSI: Miami a Criminal Investigator and a Medical Examiner is investigating a crime scene. There's a fire spreading in their direction and they know they need to move fast to collect the body, and as much evidence from the crime scene as possible before it is destroyed by the fire. The next thing they know the fire turns into a *flash fire; there is no time to run. They drop right where they are, curl up under a fireproof blanket and survive the ordeal with only minor injuries.

While they are huddled under the blanket there's a few seconds of footage giving the viewers an idea of just how hot it can get under a fairly thin fireproof blanket, all around engulfed in flames. Didn't look like a comfortable spot at all.

There are times in life when it can feel like you are caught in a flash fire and the heat is turned up all the way - with nowhere to run. It is during those times when we need to remember that
God is our 'fireproof blanket'. His Word and his promises is our protection, no matter how heated the thread or circumstance against us. God's Word is the only thing that stands forever!

"The counsel of the Lord stands forever, the thoughts of His heart through all generations."

"The grass dries up. The flower loses its colour. But the Word of our God stands forever."

"But the Word of the Lord (divine instruction, the Gospel) endures forever."

"This new life is from the Word of God which lives forever."

When you feel lost, or like your life is meaningless - going nowhere you want it to, or simply nowhere, period - you need to remember that God says, "For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you... thoughts and plans for welfare and peace... to give you hope..."

When you're going through a rough time and you feel pressed from all sides, you need to remember that God says, "I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, not will the flame kindle upon you."

When you're terrified and you don't know what is going to happen next, you need to remember that God says, "Don't be afraid, for I am with you." "Don't, don't be afraid."

When you feel rejected - unwanted and worthless - you need to remember that God says, "...I would never forget you - never."

When the going gets tough, God reminds us that our battle is not against flesh and blood, and you need to remember the weapons with which to fight yours, "...belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes to spread the Gospel, shield of faith, helmet of salvation, sword of the spirit (the Word)..."

And when you wonder if you could ever do that, you need to remember that God says, "you have strength for all things in Christ who empowers you [you are ready for anything and equal to anything through Him who infuses inner strength into you; you are self-sufficient in Christ's sufficiency]."

The next time you're caught in a flash fire with nowhere to run, drop right where you are and curl up under the Word of God: "Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It is wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life."

You may very well come away with some minor scarring or bruises, but you will be alive - your test will have turned into a testimony!! "Then you will know - they will know - that I am God."

*A flash fire is a sudden, intense fire caused by ignition of a mixture of air and a dispersed flammable substance such as a solid (including dust), flammable or combustible liquid (such as an aerosol or fine mist), or a flammable gas. It is characterized by high temperature, short duration, and a rapidly moving flame front.
